a sweet summer mess

pavlova1

i don’t know about you, but i find at this time of year time seems to pass at warp speed. last time i checked it was the beginning of november…
and now it seems we are almost half way through december. oh my.

at this time of year i have also come to realise that in my house food seems to  imitate life – it’s a visual and edible reflection of what is going on in my world and inside my head.

sometimes you get order and detail: intricately iced cakes and perfect pastry;
but more often than not (and especially in the lead up to christmas) you get this…

…chaos and mess!
a delicious and pretty (eton) mess, but mess nonetheless!

this is the sort of dessert that is perfect for this time of year –
fruity, quick and delicious, requiring more ‘assembling’ than actual cooking.

buy the meringues and lemon curd if you’re pushed for time,
or spend a happy afternoon pottering around the kitchen and make both from scratch. neither are difficult to make, requiring only a little patience and time.

so here’s cheers to december and all it’s delicious mess!
